There is a bug in the msys tools that are shipped with 6.4.1 and earlier versions, where it will periodically check the network for authentication and this can often be a lengthy wait (up to 1 minute or more).
The bug has been fixed for a future release however in the meantime there is a workaround. The workaround is to download/build the latest msys.dll and ls.exe (and other executables) from msys project and replace installed components with updated ones.
